Medicare Sequester Moratorium Extended

April 14, 2021

LUGPA applauds President Biden and Congress for recognizing the need to extend the Medicare sequester moratorium through the rest of the year by signing H.R. 1868 into law.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, independent physicians have faced significant financial challenges, with mass interruptions in patient volumes being the most notable, but still found ways to provide care to our patients utilizing all resources available to us, including new flexibilities in providing telehealth services.

The Medicare sequester moratorium, initially passed by Congress as part of the CARES Act at the start of the pandemic, continues to be a critical component for physician support during COVID-19 and beyond. By halting cuts to physician reimbursements under Medicare, independent physicians across the country can continue to provide care and reestablish more normalized patient procedures at their practices.

Today’s signing of H.R. 1868 is positive step forward to protect independent physicians for the remainder of the year and LUGPA will continue working with Congress and the Administration on legislation to bring greater legislative and regulatory stability and flexibilities for our members and the patients they serve.

Today’s outcome is a direct result of LUGPA’s government relations team actively engaging with Congressional leadership and the White House, and it validates our continued engagement with policy audiences.
